Horizontal Plough Blender

The plow mixer is a new, high-efficiency powder mixing device. Based on the material, it can be divided into stainless steel plow mixers and carbon steel plow mixers. According to the structure type, it can be divided into horizontal plow mixers and multifunctional plow mixers.

Working Principle of Horizontal Plough Blender

In the Horizontal Plough Blender, the plow rotates with the main shaft, causing the material to make a radial circular turbulent motion along the cylinder arm. Simultaneously, the radial material flows through the chopper group, thrown by the high-speed rotating chopper, constantly alternating and compounding, to achieve uniform mixing in a short time.

  • The horizontal Horizontal Plough Blender consists of a transmission part, a horizontal cylinder, a plow group shaft, a chopper group, a discharge valve, a painting device, etc.


  • The transmission part includes a motor, cycloid reducer, and coupler, mainly converting the motor’s motion to the required speed and torque to the complex blade shaft;


  • The horizontal cylinder is made of rolled steel plate, serving as a material container. The cylinder has several openings for feeding, discharge, and observation. The plow shaft support seats are fixed on the end covers of the cylinder;


  • The plow group shaft consists of plows, plow arms, and a main shaft. The plows are mounted on the main shaft using plow arms, designed in a half-structure for easy installation and disassembly;


  • The chopper group consists of multiple choppers driven directly by a motor, mounted on the side of the cylinder. The chopper axis uses a multiple-seal structure to prevent dust from entering the bearing;


  • The discharge valve is mounted at the bottom of the cylinder (except for continuous discharge) for closing and releasing material, operated through a handle and four-link mechanism;


  • The painting device is fixed on the circumference of the cylinder, with nozzles adopting agricultural spray heads for good dispersion effects.


  • The horizontal Horizontal Plough Blender is widely used in chemical, coatings, pharmaceutical, food, feed, fuel, metallurgy, and mining industries for solid-solid (i.e., powder with liquid) mixing, as well as for wet granulation, drying, concentration, and other composite processes.


Multifunctional Horizontal Plough Blender:


The multifunctional Horizontal Plough Blender is used for mixing between powder and powder, powder and liquid, and viscous or agglomerated materials. It has multiple functions such as dispersing, crushing, spraying liquid, heating, and cooling. The multifunctional Horizontal Plough Blender is widely used in the food, pharmaceutical industries, and other areas such as glue, starch, and flour. In addition to the general characteristics of Horizontal Plough Blenders, the multifunctional Horizontal Plough Blender can break up easily agglomerated materials and has the following features:


  • The added liquid spray device is reasonably designed, quickly dispersing the liquid evenly throughout the material through the high-speed rotation of the chopper group;


  • Advanced processing techniques ensure an aesthetically pleasing device with smaller gaps between the plow and the cylinder compared to conventional Horizontal Plough Blenders;


  • All transmission seals use pneumatic seals, providing good sealing performance without the need to replace wearing parts;


  • The observation port (cleaning port) employs interlock and positioning devices to ensure safe operation and good sealing performance;


  • The device includes a jacket for heating or cooling, enabling reaction, drying, and cooling functions. Discharge is pneumatically operated for easy handling.


Characteristics of Horizontal Plough Blenders

Overall, Horizontal Plough Blenders are cylindrical, horizontal, with horizontal shaft transmission, containing local mixing paddles inside.


The material movement is influenced by four main parts: first, the equipment shape, which is cylindrical and horizontal.


Second, the plows, shaped like plows, fixed on a horizontal transmission shaft, rotating along the device wall to make the material undergo diffusion motion and mutual friction shear. Initially, the plows rotate, constantly updating the material surface and increasing particle activity, characteristic of typical diffusion mixing. Simultaneously, intense mutual friction between particles provides shear mixing. Plows are radially distributed on the horizontal shaft, with an angle between them, moving without directly inserting into the powder, significantly reducing resistance within the powder. A prominent feature of Horizontal Plough Blenders is the low energy consumption for mixing.


Third, the chopper, consisting of three simple blades similar to a fan impeller. With multiple layers forming a pagoda shape, it is placed beneath the sidewall of the mixer, with a rotational speed of 1450-1900 r/min. The chopper’s function is to cause intense axial convection movement of the material. The number of choppers is determined based on their operating range.


Fourth, the oil nozzle’s position, spray direction, and atomization ability affect the dispersion of silicone oil. If silicone oil is sprayed near the chopper, initial dispersion is achieved through material convection; if sprayed on the opposite side of the chopper, initial dispersion occurs through intense friction shear actions and diffusion between material particles. These two dispersion methods show significant differences.
